It's happened to everyone. You hear all the hype about a book and you decide to pick it up and try it for yourself. Or you have heard for a while how influential an author is and decide to give them a try. And then it happens. You aren't drawn in by whatever novel you picked. You try another title by them and find the same problem. You just can't get into them.
Today, Jeremy and Trevor are going to talk about why this happens. They look specifically at Richard Matheson's Hell House and Michael McDowell's Cold Moon Over Babylon, talk about how influential each author is, and talk about why their works don't resonate with them. Along the way they debate art and whether it's subjective or objective, and whether or not we can really judge or review art. And, as artists, should we even listen to those reviews. So take a listen and if you think about a book that fits this mold, feel free to comment on our Twitter accounts @SleyHouse or @SleyHouseLitBits or email us at editor@sleyhouse.com.
