Episode 25 Winter 2021/2022 Movie Review

In this review of the 21/22 movie season, the guys talk about everything from the Foo Fighters to meta slashers to the Prosperity Gospel, they try out a few impressions, and break down what they liked and didn't like in recent new releases. They even throw in a couple of movies that were worth mentioning despite the fact that none of them saw said movie and finally preview some new music from Wayne Howard Studio. 

Episode 24: Interview with Rich Handley

This week, Trevor, Jeremy, and Curtis interview comics historian, writer and editor Rich Handley. Handley is the editor of Eaglemoss's Star Trek Graphic Novel Collection, columnist for Hero Collector, and managing editor of RFID Journal. He has written, edited, or contributed to numerous books for various comics, covering all manner of science fiction franchises, including but not limited to Star Trek, Star Wars, and Planet of the Apes. Episode 22: Vampire Wrap Up -- Part Five of our Stoker Dracula Series

In the first season finale of Sley House Publishing Presents Lit Bits, the guys bring it all home in their discussion of the lasting legacy of Stoker's most famous work. They discuss themes and craft, Stoker's influence on horror, literature, and pop culture, and who has the longer name: this podcast or Coppola's 1992 adaption starring Gary Oldman, Anthony Hopkins, and Keanu Reeves and his on-again-off-again British accent. They also throw in a little King, Anne Rice, and Richard Matheson for good measure. 

Episode 21: You’re Going to Stick that Where?! The Life and Times of Vlad Dracula

Trigger Warning: This episode contains graphic depictions of people being put to death in gruesome ways. If this kind of thing bothers you, please do not listen. 

This week, the boys dive into the life and times of Vlad Dracula. Aka Vlad the Impaler; Vlad III, Vlad Tepes, and Vlad the Butch. Known as a Christian crusader against the encroaching Ottoman empire, this historical figure used guerrilla warfare and gruesome practices to strike fear in his enemies. Though his reign was short, his reputation stretched across Europe and across the centuries to influence Bram Stoker as he crafted his most famous novel.

Episode 20: The Lyceum, Death Masks, Strokes, and Syphilis -- The Life of Bram Stoker Part Two

This week, the boys finish up the life of Bram Stoker, from the publication of his novel Dracula to the sale of the Lyceum, the deaths of some important figures in the author's life, and the author's own demise and his lasting legacy. 

Episode Nineteen: The Petty Clerk on the Flying Trapeze: Part One of the Life of Bram Stoker

This week, the boys continue their deep dive into vampires and the novel, Dracula, by starting their examination of Bram Stoker's life. Here they cover the life of the author from birth through his early days in the theater, his time as a critic and budding writer, his time as an athlete at Trinity College and his first job working in the Petty Clerk's office. Along the way, they'll examine the early experiences and ideas that would help him later create the most famous novel. So settle in for part one of the life of Bram Stoker.

Episode 18: Bram Stoker’s Dracula, Part One. Vampires Everywhere!

In Part One of our multi-episode season finale, the boys, in beginning their discussion on one of the most influential horror authors, take a look at how vampirism has spread throughout the cultures, from ancient civilizations to modern day, and look at jolly old Victorian England to paint a picture of the time in which Stoker lived. 

Episode Seventeen: 2021 Year in Review

To celebrate the end of 2021 and the beginning of 2022, the guys take a moment to reflect on their first year as a publisher and a podcast, talk about what they've learned and what goals they still hope to meet, and discuss how publishing differs from the craft of writing. In particular, they discuss finding that balance of being a profitable business and still paying authors what they're worth.
